Really sweet stroller! but very big!,
I received my Uppa Baby Vista in the Maya design. Its very nice! Let me preface this by saying that this is my third baby. I bought the typical huge travel system with my first son, along with a ‘snap and go’ for days when I just needed to run somewhere quickly. With my second son, I did away with the travel system and just used the snap and go, and bought a new Maclaren for when he was no longer a newborn. Thats all you really need, to be perfectly and completely honest. A snap and go for the baby carseat, and by the time the baby can sit up they are ready for a reclining umbrella stroller.
That being said, I am very practical. With my first baby, I brought the entire house with me when I went somewhere. So I needed room for a diaper bag, toys, gear, etcetc. When my second son was born, I fit a few diapers in my handbag along with a few wipes and that was all I really needed. He played with my empty Starbucks cup or some similar object that we didn’t need to bring from home. And we always brought a change of clothes that we left in the car for emergencies. But that was it. you live and you learn which items are true necessities and which just take up unnecessary space.
So, its been awhile. About 6 years. And we decided to start fresh again with the baby gear when we found out we were expecting baby number 3. (A GIRL!)
I checked out the Bugaboo, the Micralite and the Uppababy. I also saw a Stokke and thought it was absolutely the ugliest thing ever. The seat looked like it was cranked up on a pole. CRANK being the operative word. And the umbrella as a shade/canopy looks a bit strange. Thats just my opinion, but before you go buying a Stokke make sure you look at it first, on BOTH sides! The pictures will not show you the ugly side of the stroller. Anyway, the Uppababy far surpassed any other stroller in every category and I have researched ALOT of strollers in the past few months. I liked the forward or rear facing, fully reclining or upright interchangeable seat, bassinet (which I will probably never use), and the fact that it is compatible with 3 different brands of infant carseats. This stroller was VERY well thought out and designed. It makes a huge difference when you can actually take the seat off the frame to attach the carseat on it. With other less expensive travel systems, you place the carseat on top of the existing seat, which already has a canopy on it, combined with the carseat canopy… it makes for a HUGE monstrosity to be pushing around. They remind me of the sweet homeless gentleman that used to live outside of our apartment building in our old city apartment. He pushed around a shopping cart overloaded with blankets and clothes. Thats sort of how I feel about those travel systems. And trust me, I am not hating on them, I used to push one around myself!
Anyway, in all of the above mentioned respects, the Uppababy is AWESOME! The only downside for me, and this is nitpicking, is the size. I am not used to such a big stroller. I am short, about 5’2″ and it seems to be quite long. I can’t see the ground in front of me when the seat is turned around facing me, which is normal with larger strollers, but even more so with the Uppababy. The frame is very long. I probably wasn’t thinking because this may be our last baby, and the reason for the large frame is to fit the rumble seat on the back. It is PERFECT for that. The basket is huge. The handlebars are telescopic and perfect for tall people that need a longer handle. it steers like a dream. For a first baby, this is a 5 star, without a doubt, amazing stroller. For your third and probably last baby, maybe you could get away with something a little smaller.
Before this arrived at my house, I saw it in person at a store, sitting right next to a Bugaboo. The Bugaboo looked adorable and much more my style. It seemed more compact. But my constant reminder of the negative reviews made me turn a blind eye to it. The Uppababy looks HUGE in comparison. Another high end, but more compact stroller is the Micralite. I hated the small basket, hated the bumper bar which is very oddly placed, but as far as being COMPACT with the same features (reclining/removable seat, carseat compatibility) the Micralite was pretty nice. I thought the Bugaboo has much more variety when choosing colors, and I was set on getting one of those hot pink seats or something else feminine. Then I thought about my poor husband and how he would be mortified to be pushing around a hot pink stroller. Ladies, think of this when you are looking at the cutesy pink things. Trust me, i was all for not getting anything sporty this time. Been there, done that. The Maya fabric color is very very nice. Yellow but not too feminine. Sporty. A definitely alternative to the bright reds and silvers they have going on. Also, the fabric of the Uppababy is NOT soft cotton, it is more of a soft shiny canvas. Just a warning because I…

|Great for tall parents and perfect for ‘heavy users’,
I did a LOT of reasearch before we bought a stroller. We were willing to spend some ‘big’ money, but only if it was going to be a stroller that we could use for years to come. We had a couple challenges as well: my husband is 6’5, and I am 5’6 and we needed a stroller that comfortable for either of us to push (without crouching over short handles for hubby). We commute daily by bus and train, and live in a walk-up so needed something that would withstand lots of use, big shopping trips, etc. This stroller has been everything I hoped it would be and more.
In the early days, the bassinet was a life-saver because I could unclip it, take it up the stairs with baby still sleeping, and then come back to unload groceries, fold the stroller, etc. As our daughter grew she initially liked sitting up facing us, and then preferred to watch the outside world… so the ability to flip the seat around is really nice.
We’ve now had it for two years, and it is still in excellent shape. The one piece that broke in two years–the part of the basket that flips up when you fold it–was completely our fault, and UppaBaby was great about helping us get a replacment even though we are outside the US, and had to get creative about postage.
What we like:
- adjustable handles for different size parents
- a HUGE underneath basket
- no cross bar for long strides to kick when walking
- despite the regular mashing of raisins and cheerios, the material is still in good condition and easy to clean (although I suggest you put the whole chair in the bath and hose it down, rather than trying to take the cover off the frame)
- Bassinet worked as a bed for the first 4 months (tall parents have long babies, so we didn’t make it to 6 months that the manufacturer says is possible) and fits a standard ‘moses basket’ stand
- very easy to maneouver, even one handed and fully loaded
- extremely durable over all (wheels have lasted us 2 years, but probably need replacing now)
Things that might bug you:
- Heavier than many strollers (but very manageable). For me, that just means sturdy. I don’t worry about going up & down curbs or into trains. We use an umbrella stroller when we fly, and I hate how flimsy it is!
- The break is a bit sticky, especially in early days. I kept thinking I was breaking it… I wasn’t.
- Folding it requires learning “the trick”… I suspect this is user error. I find lots of strollers hard to collapse.
I LOVE this stroller and recommend it all the time. We have baby #2 on the way now, and have gotten the boogie board for our daughter to ride once the baby comes.

|Great stroller with some drawbacks,
The uppababy vista 2010 is a great stroller overall. Here are a few things I love on this stroller.
- That my son can face me with the forward or rear facing seat
- The extra large basket
- It is very stable
- The extended sun canopy
- That I can add a rumble seat (however, I am concerned about how heavy the stroller would be with a rumble seat)
- I can easily push it with one hand
- It comes with a belly bar, the bug net, and a rain cover, which need to be purchased separately with many other expensive strollers.
The biggest selling point for me on the stroller was that I had a colic baby and I wanted him to face me when we went for walks. I actually purchased the stroller when he was 3+ months (I waited for the 2010 model). He is now 6 months and still facing me. I love intereacting with him on our walks.
Now here are a few drawbacks to the stroller.
- It is huge and heavy. I call it the mammoth.
- I personally do not think the stroller folding is easy. I live in NYC so I never fold the stroller. But if I needed a stroller to go in and out of a car, I would not have purchased this stroller.
- I have a Valco Ion stroller and the ride is much smoother because it has suspension in all the wheels. I have to be more careful around bumps with the uppa baby stroller because it lacks suspension in the front wheels.
- No cup holder. It will always be a mystery to me why expensive strollers lack cup holders. Right now I have the Valco cup holder attached to it. But it makes it wide and sometimes gets stuck on going through small spaces. I purchased the Sunshine kids buggy buddy, but it does not fit with my son facing me, and my diaper bag (the SkipHop messenger bag) attached because the foot rest is in the way. I think I saw someone pushing it with their child facing out, with their diaper bag on, and the Sunshine kids buggy buddy, and it seemed to work.
- The canopy does not straighten out smoothly when out. It’s a minor complaint. I contacted Uppa Baby and they said it will not straighten out smoothly (and it wasn’t just the model I had).
- The front wheels became very squeaky after a few weeks. (It was most noticeable indoors). Uppa Baby sent us a new set of front wheels that are working well so far. They said this is a common complaint they have received.
- As I mentioned in my ‘love’ section, you can add a rumble seat. But because of the weight of the stroller, I am concerned that it would make the stroller extemely heavy with two kids and the extra seat. I am sure with a 2nd child I would purcahse the rumble seat to try, but I will probably also need a double (lighter) stroller as well.
Overall, this is a beautiful stroller. I love that it is eco-friendly. My experience with customer service has been great so far. They have been very responsive (via email). If I had known about the ‘drawbacks’ I would experience in advance, I would still have made this purchase.
